Trump tells World Economic Forum Canada can avoid tariffs by becoming the 51st state
Making his first remarks at an interational event since making his comeback as President of the United Sates on Monday, Donald Trump told WEF @worldeconomicforum attendees that, “You [Canada] can always become a state, and if you’re a state, we won’t have a [trade] defecit. We won’t have to tariff you.”
Trump went on to say, “We don’t need them [Canada] to make our cars, and they make a lot of them. We don’t need their lumber because we have our own forests. We don’t need their oil and gas, we have more than anybody.”
If you still thought that Trump was just making a joke or that he doesn’t mean what he says, you need a reality check. He said this to some of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people with the rest of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people watching. He means what he says and Canada is in his sights and it’s not about the border – the border is a sideshow. It’s about money. Money, money, money.
